I been through the fire.
I been through the pain.
Swam through the rain.
All in his name. x2
Foreign lands fullfilling my destiny
Surrounded by bombs and the enemy
In the pitch black with NVG's
I felt immense fear come up over me
I knows he out there right now looking down on me
I stayed up all night behind the gun
While killers crept into position waiting for the sun.
Complex ambush caught by surprise
First I heard a thud then a bang an them bullets started to fly
I ducked and threw my helmet on cus I didn't wanna die.
My knees started shaking as heavy machine guns intensified
Bullets cracking by, wasn't sure if I'd survive.
Can't see them shooters
Just a woman and her kids running by
I been through the fire
I been through the pain
Swam through the rain
All in his name x2
I watched em run into a compound
Then I saw a grenade launcher pepper that same ground
Not sure if they lived cus we didn't stick around.
I yelled and told the driver punch it till we hit the come around.
When we got back to base an my brothers saw my face
Said it looked like I saw a Ghost
Little did I know later on I'd be diagnosed.
But I felt like a failure at most , cus I'd come under fire
an didn't offer a reposte.
Never fired a shot, All I saw was that woman an her kids trying not to get got.
The next time we entered Sangin Valley I know shit would get hot.
This time I would just fire in whatever direction I thought.
Front truck hit an IED on route 601
I thought they were done, truck blew apart, radio response was none.
The towns a ghost town except the man holding the shovel in the sun.
I tell him to come here, but he spits at me, turns around to run.
Does this dude have a trigger on another IED, I keep him in the sights of my gun.
Little did I know another ambush had just begun.
The truck behind me fires a warning shot at the man in the sun
He doesn't budge .
I fire a burst but again he doesn't nudge.
Our 2nd truck hits another IED trying to clear the first one out the sludge.
Now we're stuck in this valley surrounded by men with a grudge.
We're just rollin through but now we're being begrudged.
I been through the fire
I been through the pain
Swam through the rain
All in his namex2
Hell nah I'm not the same.
A short while later all hell broke loose.
Rockets were flyin, everyone was firing
No time for excuse.
It was do or die, or suffer abuse.
The enemy had us in his trap wrapped under his noose.
In war you either kill or be killed.
The enemy doesn't wear a uniform an their God has willed
your blood to be spilled.
So let me ask you if you were in that position would you
watch your brothers die?
Or take aim at that man in the sun in order to insure they survived?
