Blue Waters

The moon tosses her veil
Across the seas,
A white blanket of promise
For a new and better day

I have been churning these
Waters alone,
Compass broken,
And even the stars have lied
As they blink at me and laugh

The fog rolls in again
Clouding my judgment
As I spin, unsure of which way
To turn, until

The dank blue ocean
Grabs at me and tries
To pull me down
But I am too young to drown
In its greedy arms

So I reach and pull
The water slipping through my hands

The swim is not easy
As I churn
My way through whitecaps,
Their gnarled teeth
Biting at my legs

My staccato breath
Measures my progress
As I inhale what little
Hope is left

Beyond these waves
The shore shows
A thin line,
Perhaps the reluctant smile
Of a parent
Who is proud of my progress.
