Alone in his room
his eyes are sad
that same old tune
playing over and over.
Remembering the times he had
when he was young
and not an old soldier.
Pain in his heart
and his bones are weary
no-one to talk to
no-one to hear, he
wraps his coat a little closer
but who cares,
he's just an old soldier.
Just an old soldier,just an old soldier

and nobody cares.
The friends that he fought with
shoulder to shoulder
are all gone now

The noise of battle ringing in his ears
still, to this day
oh just an old soldier.
For his country he fought
with honour and pride
and the scars he bears
will always remind him
of the boys he left behind
