Well played & well placed Dan. To me, Ella Fitzgerald is the greatest jazz singer that ever existed. Her voice was amazing and could knock down soloists :)

This really is apparent in the long jam sessions at the many "Jazz at the Philharmonic". She was amazing with her improv creativity and stamina; she was even scatting "faster" phrases in duels with trumpet and sax GREATS!!!! UNBELIEVABLE to witness it!!!!

Yes, many musicians were almost afraid of it. She reproduced with her voice the musicians' solos by improvising in addition and improving the solo.
