There’s a little bottle
With just a little left
I know I should avoid it
But I’m a bit bereft

Been trying to taper off it
Since I got out of the clink
But while I was inside
All I wanted was a drink

But I know it’s got me
In its thick unyielding hand
No matter what I try to do
Or how my family remands

Its the whisky baby
That’s got me in its hold
You know I can’t break free
In this card game I gotta fold

I’ve tried those self help groups
And they work for a little while
I act like I’m being helped
But inside I’ve got to smile

The bottle is my mistress
I know she’ll never let go
Even though I try to break it off
I ain’t got nothin’ to show

Just a river of heartache
Sorrow with my family and friends
Although they’ve all abandoned me
She’ll stick with me to the end
