The Country Train
Sometimes - well, often for drummers - you need to wind it all in and just do what the track demands. In this track's case, that's very true. All that's needed is the good ol' 'train's a-coming' snare drum line. Nothing more, nothing less. What's in it for me? Discipline. Keeping the urge to let rip under control.
Anyway, great little bit of country from Frenzie here. So here's some classic C&W drumming to go with it. And on the plus ...

I appreciate the simplicity of your accompaniment :o in my experience as a jammer...drummers are thee most temperamental individuals :o percussion changes the mood of a track so much! Showing restrain is a sign of a great drummer in my opinion <3<3<3

You're absolutely right. Drummers have a surprising amount of control of a piece of music but it's easy to abuse. I 'learned my place' in a band in the '90s where the singer/songwriter was also a very good drummer. He knew what was wanted and I learned the hard way how to behave myself. Annoyed me at the time, of course, but an invaluable skill that I can only thank him for to this day.

I found the loops because I was looking for real drums as I had been delving into production and I came to the conclusion that no drum samples could ever replace the real thing.Thats when I began to understand the importance of the drummer!

I would never let my indecision take me from behind, but, after you mentioned it, I just had to watch the Bucks Fizz video to see if it was as horrible as I remembered it. It was. Thanks for that. Mate.

I didn't make my mind up, no. I prefer my decision making to be fluid and evidence-based. I think bucks fizz failed to grasp the concept of profound simplicity.

Train beats are very strenuous and yes ...require discipline. You need upper body strength yet you need to be loose and limber to keep the groove. Worked on one for weeks this last spring while working with Olivia on her demos. Stuff like this is always a crowd pleaser and any musician worth their salt has some country chops in their arsenal. Its just so fun as well.

That's a cracking track with a snare sound I strive for but am a long way off achieving! It's always the way in drumming: the 'simplest' is often the hardest to keep going - like asking a bass player to play a constant 8th note bass line! Harder than it looks to be simple and it's those groove/discipline challenges I relish the most these days. The drummer's job is to be conductor, not front man.
