Beating Heart, Depleting Brain

Maybe I'm getting old, losing concentration.
Things will not stay in my head, my brains go on vacation.
There are so many things that I forget
Sounds like an excuse.... and yet.

You knew that I was busy Boy, so many things to do.
This, that and the other Boy, the workload grew and grew.
You know I meant to be there Boy but time just simply flew.
It was always my intension Boy, you have to know that's true ... but
You slipped my mind, I must have been distracted.
You slipped my mind, I regret the way I acted.
I'm sorry......

Maybe my heart is getting old, it's been around so long.
Still beating automatically, playing an endless song.
I'm stuck with the same old melody it beats with rhythmic constancy
My wandering mind makes me forget.... and yet

You know the time was just against me, I didn't see the clock.
I was taking liberties instead of taking stock.
I was happy in my comfort zone, my thoughts just ran amok.
Call me shallow, call me heartless.... call me a doc(tor) because...
You slipped my mind etc.
