Dancing like a Dad

Sometime it starts with a knee, a random joint swinging free
Let it slip another degree, you start to sway deliberately

You forget everything that you said
To your daughter when you sat on her bed
When you saw how her face had turned red
And you promised just to dance in your head

You’re swaying this way and that. You’re looking like a bit of a prat
But your feet are still stuck to the floor. You think that maybe you could do more

You spin around and there’s somebody there, it’s your daughter with her Medusan glare
You decide that you don’t really care. You start to point at folk who’re not there

And as you try to revive the Lindy hop, the Balboa and Jive
Your daughter and her friends all join in. They’re saying everybody! Let’s dance like him

Everybody dances like a dad. It’s the greatest fun that we’ve ever had
We’re all connected and we’re all alive, We’ll still be dancing when we’re seventy-five
