Hi Wikiloops friends,
I want to convert my bassignal which is comming over USB to the DAW, live into midi, so that my bass sounds like a tuba, for example.
I know the 2 step way to record and convert after with software, but that's not what I like to do.
Found this
http://www.nerds.de/en/inst2midi.html
and I thought this could work.
Now I'm trying to get it working, but I'm a bit lost and need your help.
Does anybody know how to setup this? How must this be routed etc ...
I want to work with it in reaper.

Thanks for your support;)
Hi! :) The Instr2Midi is discontinued, you went to the download page and downloaded the IP2Midi which is a totally different application (used to send actual midi signals over the network) ;)
I have tried a few different versions of software tracking for instrument to midi, but it's just not good enough :/ I ended up buying a Roland GK-3B divided pickup and put that on my bass ;)

Hi eGiL,
thanks a lot for your response and hints.
Which different software did you try before buying the GK3B?
The Roland Gk3B looks good.I think that will be a solution.;)
I will have look in my mess of VST's to find the names ;) One was pretty OK, but expensive to buy!
The Roland GK3B is great, but you need a Roland (or i think Yamaha also have some) synth module with midi-out as you cannot directly connect the GK3B to your pc :/

Does that work well with a bass guitar? I've seen no info about that being used on anything but guitars.

Yes, that one is pretty good! And the pricing is better than before ;) I tried the MIDI Guitar version (because at that time the bass version did not exist). Jolux, you should try this one out :)

Hmm - I just tried it and I have to say the tracking just wasn't good enough for me though it did have some nice effects when played slowly and with low-attack sounds. I'm not quite so bothered about the real-time aspect - anyone got some tips for generating midi from recorded audio in Reaper?

I'm about to embark on my Reaper adventure, leaving Sonar behind :D Doesn't ReaTune in Reaper provide the Audio to Midi conversion you need?

It seems to get it working out of the box in reaper, I'll test it step by step.

I found also some videos on youtube "using guitar as midicontroler"

This sounds great!:D:W
Hi Jolux
The most economical option I found and most reliable if you want to make tracks with monophonic sound is this option, you will need an option of MIDI sound module and works with the electric bass
I will look for the track that I made with bass and MIDI on wikiloops
MIDI controller for bass, guitar and voice: SONUUS G2M V3
Interface unit to control monophonic sounds from any guitar or bass by triggering any keyboard or MIDI sound module with the strings

Hello friends,
Thank you for your support and the numerous hints.
The hardware solutions are both interesting.
The software solution jam origin is not bad, but sometimes creates unwanted artifacts. Perhaps this can be optimized in the settings.
With reaper I realized the realization from the video.
That was pretty easy.
Again, at first I had strong artifact formation and B0 etc. were not recognized and consequently not audible.
I set the "windowsize" to 100 ms in the tuner, so all notes are recorded and reproduced. At 200 ms the result was again very bad.
Copying the tracks and mapping the different VST instruments also works well.
Here, the quality of the VST-I is probably crucial.
Now I will have to search for good free VST instruments.
eGil you certainly have a good link at hand;)
