The sun blinks a lazy eye on the sea,
While the tide of the night rolls over me,
And sounds of the town drift over the beach,
The distant laughter seems far out of reach,
The accompanying clink of the glasses,
Sounding like crystal rain,
And I hear the gulls cry.
The waves beat a mournful rhythm and blues,
Crashing on the rocks in their ones and twos,
And the wind whispers lightly in my ear,
Saying that it knows why it finds me here,
The lonely path to where solitude lives,
Calls me homeward again,
And of course I follow.
The moon's in the sea and loves to be seen,
While I just reflect on what might have been,
And the stars like eyes in the inky black,
Looking down on me as I stare up back,
But it's you I see wherever I look,
It's just three little words,
So why can't I say them?
