I listened today to this wikiloops track by Lawaai "Whimsy and Scant Evidence" [wl]270189[/wl]

He wrote: "Was having trouble deciding between two different melodies, and then it occurred to me "Why not both, panning and syncopating them?" Will it work? Who knows, but it is fun to try! Phrases are mostly scalar runs between D and A, no real chords per se. Synthesizer is a Minifreak using a custom patch mixing Superwave and FM/RM oscillators."

That reminded me of the great Robert Fripp guitar solo on David Bowie's "Heros", basically three separately recorded tracks that were not really exiting, but when combined... booom!

So sometimes it's cool to try to combine stuff when recording, you never know!

And here is one of my old tracks where I combined separate guitar solo bits - I think it works, too. Obviously not Robert Fripp, but then who is...

Interesting to hear the stems for Heroes become what I know and love.

I supported Wikiloops not for their name, I support it because it was a great idea & is a great way for musicians to jam outside their circles.
