The pregnant pond

The pond is pregnant,
Her belly so swollen
From the heavy rains above.

The surrounding muck
Wants to trap my toes.

As I get closer,
She wails,
“Help me,”
Grabbing at my feet
With her sticky fingers.

Desperate, she
Drags me closer
To the water’s edge,
And pulls again,

Hoping I can help her unload 
Some of this
Heavy water weight,
Impregnated
From the reluctant father above.
