Night early is the sighing
Of the dim and smog-clothed day
Where trains of noise and light
Take people suburb way
Where the street lamps seldom flicker
And the grass is council cut
Where the people watch the 'Tele'
Sinking deeper in their rut
Where the air is smoky scented
And the sky is never blue
This is where I often waited
For a dream which wasn't you
By the steps of the Granada
With the fish-bar standing near
And locals speaking coarsely
Living life without a care
Hopping on the empty buses
Full of space and noisy light
Where the day is dead forgotten
At half-past ten at night
