The heartbeat of a house,
with its watchful eye,
its quiet, a reminder
to sit still,
listen,
and savor.

Don't think ahead,
don't look behind,
just be still
in the moment,
and feel, feel
what's going on around you.

The pace of a tired clock,
the house sighing as it settles
after a long day of sitting,
the wind wheezing
through the window pane.

And the even churn
of my own breath
as it reminds me
that I'm still going,
still trying.
