Darkness Falls

My mortality wraps around me like the shroud that wraps my body,
Scraps of sorrow, ghosts of glory, in a memory growing dim,
Scattered embers of a fire that grew one day ever higher,
Ever brighter than desire, ever rising as a hymn.

Oh the days that blazed with glory as the story of my living
Gave unto the grave the leaving of a world we cannot keep.
Now the solace for my sorrow takes from me what I once borrowed,
Begged or stole from my tomorrow. Darkness falls and now I\'ll sleep.

From the moment of my waking life has always done the taking
And I\'ve always done the giving, living any way I can.
And the treasures that I gathered, well they never really mattered
And the only thing that mattered is what\'s done for fellow man.

And the only thing that binds me to the ones I leave behind me
Are the many little moments that showed then that I cared.
And the treasures that I leave them will be found withing the memories
Of those precious little moments and the pleasures we have shared.
