A Very fine Template ! M4fp mentions Bass, so I decided to put in some time on my 8-string extended range guitar. Tuned All 4ths with a dropped fat string. This add happened.

ulfberth Thank you. By definition a chord is 3 notes. Often 4 in Jazz. Then there is Barre chords where one finger bridges several strings. One technique that I use is the right hand plucking often 4 strings leaving unwanted notes muted.
One theory of standard guitar tuning is that it enables open strings to sound as part of many chords. But it's not necessary to strum all the strings.
Curiously 8 strings enables overtones to ring out on all notes. Melodic playing benefits even if you play series of individual notes. Since unplayed strings resonate sympathetically unless muted. +2

ulfberth Strandberg Boden 8-string.
Headless, ergonomic, light - extraordinary sustain. Takes a while to get to know it, which I've complicated by tuning it all 4ths. But tuning offers to learn new expressions. +1
