Someone I Used To Know

I knew a kid with reckless dreams
Thought the world was built for him
Spoke too loud in quiet rooms
And swore he'd never bend
He’d chase the night till morning came
Like sleep was just a myth
Said he'd never lose that fire
Well, funny thing is, he did

Sometimes I swear I see his face
In the photographs I keep
A stranger staring back at me
From someone I used to be

Cause there is someone I used to know
He lives inside these bones
Had a heart that never learned
How to let things go
Somewhere down the winding road
He slipped right out my reach
I still see him in the mirror
Because, looking back, is me

He believed in bigger things
Than pay checks and routines
Thought he'd leave a mark somewhere
Between the in-betweens
He’d talk about forever like
It waited down the street
Now forever’s just a word
We don't really mean

Sometimes I miss, the stubborn soul
The one who didn’t doubt
If I could talk to him again
I’d ask what that's all about
maybe he’d just laugh and say
don't you think we're still the same?

Cause there is someone I used to know
He lived inside these bones
Knocking on the walls I built
Trying to come back home
