I'm following one Guy on facebook, who's making very nice tutorials for mixing on YT.
Many times I tried to find some good VSTs in the network. If You tried to do the same, probably You realized to yourself, how many crap there is.

In this case I'm rally happy to have some very good recomendations from live.act. I'm very happy that I can share with You Loopers too...

Here You can watch video. I'ts in Polish but I think righ part of this video is undestandable.

Maybe other Loopers can share them shots? What if We make nice list of useful and free plugins for the rest of Community?

Some of them are brillant. All LePou's amplifiers are excellent:

This is my favorite piano VST (the Rhodes piano is fantastic):

This seems like an interesting thread that hasn't been active. SO, a post. I recently ran across free granular synth Oi,Grandad. Most granular synths are expensive, so I was excited to find something that looked useful, and free. I found some time to experiment with it today, and am very pleased with the sounds. Completely sample driven, and with all the basic channels, the synth feature 4 samplers.

I wanted to hear how some hydrasynth synth wavetables sounded granularized. I will post some results soon.

Grab this limiter while it's free. I usually make a mess with limiters but this one is great. There are options if you click the logo. the punchy setting is fab.

IMO the best free compressor - it's limited options are part of the appeal and it doesn't mess with the sound. If you're new to compression this one is a very nice easy start point. If you're experienced you'll also appreciate this one. I have too many compressors and still go for this one nearly every time.

There's more, in addition to the granular I posted about. The creator, publicsamples, has written quite a few handy looking vsts.

The page at github: https://github.com/publicsamples

Browsing these pages last night, I got the whacky notion that github could be used as a repository for midi and mp3 file sharing. Maybe an area for 30sec festival type tracks. I wonder if people would be interested in this idea.

FOLLOW-UP: Github's quota for a free account is 100mb filesize and 1gb storage. Paid accounts are available for larger repo's (50gb allotments) and filesize upgrades.

not free, but coming soon is Steven Slate's Groove AI, an addition to Steven Slate Drums VST. i've been using the SSD VST for a few months now, and as a non-drummer, i really enjoy the 'grooves' or pre-made drumming patterns, but they are a bit limited. the addition of Groove AI is interesting. for me, the drag/drop riff seems exciting, although i don't know if it's truly AI or just polling a database of the grooves i already have and use within SSD. looking forward to exploring it though.

One plug-in that I`ve added as a standard to my recording templates is WIDER. Does a great job when you need to "squeeze" an add into a dense template. I`ve also used it as an alternative to standard panning and as an effect on stereo signals. Interesting results when you widen the signal beyond 150%

"Polyverse Wider gives any mono signal the illusion of an expanded stereo image with an awe-inspiring amount of width. It’s a unique stereo widener plug-in that is completely “mono-compatible” — any signal that has been widened will always remain in phase with itself, even when it is summed back into mono."

My recommendations:

FREE VSts:

-Spitfire Labs
-u-he Zebralette
-Alex Hilton A1StereoControl
-Ozone Imager
-Slate Digital Fresh Air
-Valhalla Supermassive
-iZotope Vinyl

PAID VSts:

-Waves (my favorites: J37 Tape Machine, Kramer Master Tape, SSL G-Master Buss Compressor, CLA-76, CLA-2A, C6 Multiband Compressor, and many more)
-Valhalla (VintageVerb, Delay, Room)
-Kontakt (imho a must-have; contains a lot of realistic-sounding instruments, effects, and synthesizers like MassiveX)
-u-he Diva
-ElectraX2
-Addictive Drums
-Soothe2
-IK Multimedia Classic Clipper (there's a huge difference in sound between the built-in clipper and this VST)
-Effectrix
-ShaperBox
-iZotope RX
-Spitfire banks (they sound great but are heavy on memory and also very expensive)
-Soundtoys (I don't have the full suite, only Decapitator and Little AlterBoy, but both plugins are great)

Paid VSts I wouldn't buy anymore:

-Melodyne Editor (it's a powerful tool but also really expensive, and I'm not using it that often. Plus, the direct note access, which is the highlight of this version, often doesn't work as it should)
-iZotope Ozone (mastering can be done with Waves plugins too)
-iZotope Neutron (the same thing; Waves plugins are more than enough for mixing in my opinion. The only thing I use is the Neutron EQ, which can also be used as a dynamic EQ)
-iZotope Nectar (good for a quick, automated vocal mix in seconds, but for the real mix, I prefer to do it manually with Waves plugins)
-BIAS FX and AMP (cool VSTs, but I use GuitarRig way more often, and it is already included with Kontakt)

I'm sure that I have forgotten some plugins, haha.

If I were to start again from scratch, Kontakt and some Waves plugins for mixing and mastering would be everything I need!

Your page describes a demonstration sound file? I could not see that.
Good luck with it.
