August always reminds me of Neil Diamond's 1972 Hot August Night concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The opening vocal of Crunchie Granola Suite still puts me in a good mood even after all these years.

I was at this concert in Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire, England in the summer of 1977 when he was at the height of his popularity in England. What a memorable night and a great flashback for this the first day of August 2025 :)

I think August 1st has arrived for all wikiloopers now, in fact for some members it's already August 2nd :D

I didn't really know Neil Diamond until quite recently when every big sporting event finishes with his song "Sweet Caroline" I don't know what Caroline has to do with football but people like to sing the "ba ba ba" part together. It always used to be "We are the champions" by Queen. There's something great about hearing a large crowd singing an 'anthem' together - the best of all imo is the Liverpool fans singing "You'll never walk alone" which is actually a show tune (forgotton which one) but very moving. My team, Leicester have the anthem "When you're smiling" how appropriate for a new 'happy' August thread. <3

Aah, that was lovely Wolfgang. Leicester in the good times, maybe not great singers, but entertaining.

Yes I agree Sham, but nobody does it better than the Welsh, goosebumps even on a patriotic limey like me :)

Wow TeeGee, congratulations, that's wonderful news <3

Thanks Gerry, that brought a tear of joy. Thinking about Wales and sport and the great tradition of singing together, here's another favorite - Bread Of Heaven (Cwm Rhonnda) In this video a single Rugby fan start the song and more and more folk join in, so stirring.

Saturday 2nd August.
What made me very happy today was finding that box of stationery that went missing. It was in the back of a deep wardrobe, pushed to the back. I have no idea how it got there :(

I've started looking at houses for sale again - one of my favourite pastimes. My son and his lady are coming to visit from Norway on Monday, it's been at least a year since I saw him, so lots to catch up on face to face :)

August 4, 1.30am

Life's a bitch.
3 family members in hospital. Doctors have practically given up on my mum, so I've been busy preparing everything to take her home and care for her here...with some professional support. My dad is so full of sadness that he lost his concentration for a second, slipped and broke 4 ribs. So now he's laying in the same hospital 3 floors above my mum. It'll be their 60th wedding aniversary this wednesday which for the first time ever they'll spend apart.

And to top it all off, my future mother in law is now in the same hospital as well.

A real one stop disaster.

With all this going on, I was extremely touched that ROBJOL actually picked one of my old tracks called childhood memories to add some lovely guitar florishes. It couldn't have been more apt.

It seems that life is throwing its worse at you and your family, thank goodness that a little bright spot in all this is music and wikiloops. This August we may have to look harder to find the happy moments but they will be there Believe me <3

Life is not easy and often creating challenges. Hope all will be great and all troubles will over. One good things for music is that even for seconds you can forget for all bad and start creating music. For this WL is one of our options to escape from cloudy life and go to bright imaginations.
