Ever wonder what it's like in Heaven with all the artist we have lost. I'm taking Artist that have died and putting them together see what type of band heaven has by combining artist. Start your Band in Heaven.
My first band in heaven would be---

Keith Moon --- Drummer The Who
Jimi Hendrix -- Guitar singer songwriter
Sam Cooke --- Singer Songwriter
Donald Duck Dunn --- Bass Player

To start with I would take Donald Duck Dunn as a Bass Player, Jimi Hendrix on Guitar, Keith Moon on Drums, and Sam Cooke as the singer. This band today would probably be doing a bluesy rock kind of music.

Well that's how this works make up your own band and start a discussion of what you think they would be playing today. Have fun

Bass: Jack Bruce
Drums: Bonzo Bonham
Singer: Janis Joplin

Jeff Porcaro (Drms) + Frank Zappa (gtr-voc) + Jaco Pastorius (bass) + Miles Davis (trmpt) ... probably a scouring avant garde jazz rock quartet ... yummy

Hey Dave, cool thread.
Mine would be.

Drums = Buddy Rich
Bass = Bob Babbitt
Guitar = Rory Gallagher
Singer = Roy Orbison
Keyboardist = John Lennon

This is an astounding/shocking list, I think they would be doing multi-genres.
From Motown, Jazz, Folk, Rock and Blues. Maybe even a POP song or two.
I know there are better for each placement.
But, for well rounded-ness. Don't think you could beat the collective.

Show your favorites. :)

Very cool thread! Mine would be close to Oli's choices, I reckon. Depends on the band though!

For jazz, I'd want:

Drums: Buddy Rich
Bass: Ray Brown
Guitar: Ronny Jordan
Trumpets: Miles Davis & Dizzy Gillespie
Saxophones: Grover Washington Jr & John Coltrane
Piano: Art Tatum
2nd Piano & Vocals: Gill Scott Heron

Still working on a contemporary line-up!

For a contemporary band I'd have:

Drums: Jeff Porcaro
Bass: Phil Lynott
Guitar 1: Frank Zappa
Guitar 2: Randy Rhodes
Keys 1: Richard Wright
Keys 2: Ray Manzarek
Vocals: Ronnie James Dio & Freddie Mercury

I reckon that'd have a few feet tappin'

Anything goes .... so how about this ...

Vocals: Elvis
Guitar 1: Stevie Ray Vaughan
Guitar 2: George Harrison
Keys: Ian Stewart
Bass: Jack Bruce
Drums: John Bonham

They'd play some killer classic Rockabilly Rock Blues. Think fast rockin Elvis.

Opening song would be their version of Crossroads.
